1. University College of Addis Ababa

Now known as the Addis Ababa University, University College of Addis Ababa was established in 1950. In 1975, the university was given the name of the then emperor, Haile Salassie, and then, the present name. The total number of campuses that the university has, are 13, of which 12 are situated in Addis Ababa, and 1 in Bishoftu. 

2. Mekelle University

Mekelle University is situated in Mekalle, at a distance of 783 kilometers from the capital. It was established in May 2000, by combining Mekelle Business College and University College. Mekelle Business College was initially established by the EPRDF, in the year 1987, as a School of Economics. In 1991, it was upgraded to Mekelle Business College, which offers diploma level programs.

3. Hilcoe School of Computer Science & Technology

An institution specialized in Computer Science, it was established in 1997 by IT professionals Nasir & Ahmed. Situated in Arat Kilo, the institute offers UG & PG degrees in Computer Science.

4. Addis Ababa Science & Technology University

The university was established in 2011, as a part of the Government’s five-year development plan. The strength of undergraduate students at the university is 8000, and has 700 Postgraduate students. There are nine applied sciences, engineering, technology, and ICT focused schools under the university, and has managed to recruit 472 academic staff and 391 administrative staff, as per their website.
